EarthBound vs. FF7, Part 2
Thanks to the 1009047cositive response I got, I have decided to continue with this series. Today's topic is "Characters: Jeff vs. Cid, Poo vs. Yuffie." (As FF7 has more playable characters than Earthbound, I am doing my best to match Earthbound characters with their closest FF7 counterparts).
Jeff and Cid are the mechanically oriented characters of their games. Both are geniuses who have tinkered with electronics all their life. So what's the difference between them? Other than obvious facts(Cid is older, etc.), Jeff was not used as a tool to attract customers for Square. Cid, a disgrace to THAT name, is a foul-mouthed smoking loser. Anyone who hasn't played FF7 and wants to know what the new Cid is like should simply turn on the TV and find someone that fits the prior description. Jeff's personality is not someone that could be copied that easily. Also, Jeff has a pleasant personality, making him likable; Cid does not.
Yuffie and Poo are in many ways similar. They are both from an isolated oriental community, and are karate types. They have trained from a young age to become disciplined warriors. Therefore, the main problem with Yuffie is not her annoying personality which is contrasted nicely by Poo, but the fact that her attitude and ways in no way reflect the world she has grown up in. As she is a ninja at a relatively young age, it must be assumed that she has trained since she was very young. Psychologically, she should be alot more serious after undergoing training at this age. Yet she is the complete opposite of a disciplined character, and Poo is therefore better.
