Fanart and Flukes
Hmm. Well, I'm a little late for staff article week. Falcon bugged me a bunch to write one, but I couldn't think of a topic. As I was reading Tomato's article about how to make a successful (hopefully) EarthBound website, an idea popped into my head. Don't ask how or why, stuff like that just comes to my mind out of nowhere. Anyways, the idea for the article that popped into my head was about Fanart. Then I thought "Well maybe I should include flukes in this too." So, here we go.
The other day I sent an email to Lis Vender about her fanart for the funfest and how much I liked it. Then I got to thinking about how I didn't see much fanart, and all I saw lately was flukes. I don't know why people don't submit more fanart (besides the fact that all the links in the fanart section are broke, gah).. but I really wish they would. I'm planning on drawing some soon as a matter of fact.
Fanart has always been my favorite section of the site. I don't know why, but it just has been.
OK I don't know how to put this in so this article won't seem very organized but oh well at least I am getting out what I need to...People seem to submit a lot (well I think they do anyways..) of flukes.. and people SEEM to like them (that's the impression I get, at least).. but, why? I don't mean to degrade any of the people that make them, because there are a few good ones, but, most flukes now aren't even funny, and are poor quality too! Remember back when Kyosuke's fluke site was still active? Now THOSE were funny, and were high quality! You just don't see those anymore... all of them look to be thrown together in 30 seconds. Back to Fanart now.
Why DON'T people submit fanart? My guess is they are too lazy, but that's just my guess. Maybe there are more people without scanners than I think. Whatever the reason is, I wish people would submit more fanart than flukes. If you go to a major Final Fantasy or whatever other game site you have, most have fanart of the week! Here, it would be more like fanart of the month, if that even.
Even if you think you can't draw, who cares! Sure, there will always be a few people who say "Haha (s)he sucks and shouldn't even draw anything" , but who cares about them! Heck, most people don't even draw it on paper! Some do it in 3D, some just make it in paintbrush!
I'm going to be drawing some stuff in the near future just to add some more fanart stuff. I'll be the first to tell you that I'm not the greatest drawer in the world, but hey, I try. Isn't that what's important?
