The Many Uses of the Suporma

Hey everybody, this is my first article for SM.net. In fact, I just discovered the site today, (12-24-01) or yesterday, I guess, since it is after midnight. w00t, its Christmas. Anyway, I'm writing now to discuss the many uses of the Suporma. Now granted, it just breaks down after playing one song which the creators didn't even turn into a music clip for our enjoyment, but you have to consider the effect it might have on the characters in the game.

I remember renting EB from blockbuster back in 1996; it was almost (but not quite, as I had played Secret of Evermore, another great modern-ish funny-game) my first exposure to RPG's. I was 10, and with no outside sources i only managed to get to Twoson, but i couldn't for the life of me figure out where to go from there. I couldn't even find the way to Happy Happy Village, because my mind was set on going down, and HHV, as we all know, is not down but right. Instead I spent many an hour trying to find some new creative way to get to Threed. I didn't invest in Apple Kid, because (at the time) it didn't occur to me that anyone so terribly smelly could possibly invent sensible, practical items like machines to erase pencils. Instead, I gave money to Orange Kid, and my only reward was the stupid Suporma.

So i told myself, "Joe, work with it." Someone (I can't remember who right now because its late at night) tells you (might be the hint guy) that the ghosts in the tunnel to Threed don't like loud music. So i figured, what could be more annoying that "Ode to the Orange Kid"? I bought a couple of skip sandwiches, Suporma-in-pack, and walked through the Threed tunnel as far as you can go before the ghosts send you back, and i played the Suporma. The stupid thing broke down, and the ghosts were still there. I was so mad that reset the game, walked back to Onett (because with the reset my skip sandwiches came back) and played "Ode to the Orange Kid" for mayor Pirkle. That showed 'im!

As you can see, the possibilities are endless. There are at least 200 characters in EB that have one line, and through the magic of the suporma and the reset button, you can terrorize them all! And while i'm on the subject, why can't Jeff repair the Suporma and make it do something useful? He could turn it into the Orange Kid Eraser. w00t.

On a somewhat related note, am I the only one who appreciates the Beatles reference in Onett: "Pop Quiz: Song Titles. XXXterday" "yes" "no". Its the little things that make the game so great.
