Tenda! I Choose You!

Just a couple of days ago I decided to check up on EBounding's personal site, wondering if it would be any different now that it was hosted by EarthBound.net. For the most part, the site was just the same. Great Real Audio tracks of both EarthBound soundtracks. That is, except for one difference. EBounding has produced a section dedicated to his "PSI, Power, and Pokemon" fanfic, which I read the day it came out (April 7th, I believe). Awesome fanfic, an EB-Pokemon cross over couldn't have been done much better. That led to me to the actual games. 'They should make more character cross-overs in games,' I thought. Less than a month later, what could be the best cross-over game imaginable was released. Super Smash Bros. of course. It made me wonder why Nintendo, with all these fantastic characters, doesn't make more games like that.

One of the reasons is obvious. Not all of the characters would be compatible in a normal Nintendo game. Donkey Kong piloting an Arwing? I think not. But what about EarthBound and Pokemon? Just earlier on, I faced the Mario Bros. in a one player Smash Bros. game, my ally being Jigglypuff. At the defeat of my opponents, the camera came in for a victory close-up. Jigglypuff was conveniently crouched on Ness's shoulder. It looked great. That's when I realized the characters of EarthBound are definitely compatible for a game with characters from Pokemon. Future EarthBound games could definitely have some sort of involvement with the creatures. And the fact is, it can be done on a legal level. Nintendo has rights to all the characters of the their respective games and thus has the rights to do anything they want with them. Smash Brothers is a perfect example of that.

Now, let's factor this into an equation; Pokemon is the current hottest commodity of Nintendo; EarthBound.net is the premier EarthBound website on the net. If Pokmon were to be featured in a future EarthBound game (not EB64, just get that thing on the market already, let's hope Nintendo doesn't see this article and decide to re-do EB64 so we can wait another four years), every online Pokemon fan would turn to the EarthBound sites for info, etc. Their first stop would obviously be EB.net. Every great EarthBound site has a link to it. Imagine the amount of hits. Imagine the magnitude of members contributing fanart, etc. If your mouth is watering, swallow. If this ever does happen it will be in the distant future, probably on another gaming system. Just keep waiting for EarthBound 64 for now. And there you have it, another great concept that Nintendo will probably never even think about.
