EarthBound Speculations, Part Two
Hello, fans of Earthbound! I have something else we should seriously consider, and this time I think this should really be considered.
We all know about the Y2K 'bug' that is set to disrupt or nuke any computer not able to cope on January 1st, 2000. For those that don't know what goes on, computers have been designed to write in two-digit year shorthand instead of the full four digits. Furthermore, they can't understand the concept of zero.
Can we say 'system failure?' Although the more recent computers have been reprogrammed and hardwired for the normal four-digit date, there's still many international and government companies that aren't prepared for the 'big one' of Cyberspace.
And guess what? Japan is lagging big-time in its Y2K compliance efforts. If the Y2K bug bites them bad, we won't just see it on the Internet here - we'll see it in video games.
In short, Japanese-made games might not show up for a long time, if ever, or they might be delayed. EB64 and other Japanese games are cutting it too close, or over, the deadline. If the bug does what we think it will do, we all should start worrying about the arrival of our beloved Mother 3.
Let's just hope for the best, and pray the Y2k bug does not destroy our lifestyle.
