Picky's Theories: Magical Mach Pizza Man
EarthBound is a game full of mysteries and insufficiently explained phenomena. One of these mysteries is how exactly a Mach Pizza Man from Twoson managed to get to Threed to deliver Apple Kid's Zombie Paper to Ness. By no means to I claim that my theory is an absolute truth, because it is merely a theory. My theory will not be completely scientifically sound, but then again it is a theory about how a Pizza delivery guy gets past ghosts in a fictional land. I propose that the Mach Pizza Man was too miserable of a person to attract the attention of the ghosts.
The sole purpose of the ghosts and zombies in Threed seems to be to sap the happiness of the town... and stop Ness and friends from getting through. It would make sense then that these ghosts are in fact attracted to any trace of happiness. The Mach Pizza Man probably doesn't want to be a pizza delivery guy at that stage in his life and it would be safe to assume that this is a very unpleasant thing for him. It would also be safe to assume that his bitterness and complete lack of anything resembling joy could be enough to conceal his presence from the ghosts haunting the tunnel.
I believe that there were two ways to get past the ghosts in the TwoThree Tunnel that connects Twoson and Threed. Either overwhelming joy and happiness, or the absence of those things. While the idea that the Mach Pizza Man knows how to teleport is an attractive idea, it just doesn't make sense. PSI users are rare so why would someone working a job like pizza delivery have this unbelievable power that makes Ness, Paula, and Poo so great. If he did possess the power it would only make sense that he would do something greater than delivering pizzas to help the Chosen Four.
The people who live in the world of EarthBound are in the Mach Pizza Man's debt. If he hadn't been such a miserable man there is no telling what kind of horrors awaited the world when Giygas' plan came to fruition and the planet was under his control. Thankfully the right man was in the right place when Apple Kid went searching for a person to deliver the Zombie paper to Ness. Miserable Magical Mach Pizza Man, we salute you.
