Spookane Modeled after Real City?
I live in Washington state, about an hour's drive from a pretty good sized city called Spokane (no spelling error, only one o.) Just happened to notice that similarity, as I was playing through EarthBound 0.
This leads me to believe that Spookane is pronounced Spoo (like spoon or spook) can (like the word), because Spokane is pronounced Spo (like spoke) can (again, like the word).
Seeing as how NoA is based in Redmond, Washington (if I remember right, anyway), it would seem to make sense that Spookane could be based on Spokane, it is a fairly large city, after all.
And, to end this article, think about this, if Ellay could be modeled after Los Angeles (See Jakob Dorof's "Names Puns and Other Trivia" guide), then why not Spookane and Spokane?
