I Believe in You, Mother 3.
So we've come to it at last. Mother 3 is on the verge of being released in Japan nearly 10 years after it was announced. Alot of us have been watching the progress on Mother 3 since we first saw screenshots in Nintendo Power. That early announcement had brought us great, and also great heartache: News of delays and cancellations have torn away our morale, but we have stuck with the series and now are about to enjoy a new chapter in the Mother series.
I was only 8 when I first played EarthBound. The game immediately drew me in. The colorful world and the fun characters immediately drew me in. Since I was so young, I wasn't the greatest at reading, but Earthbound helped strengthen my reading skills. I'm not kidding when I say I grew up with the series, as I'm sure most of us did too, and because of this I have a strong attachment to the game.
Now we will soon have Mother 3 in our hands. I, like many on this site, pre-ordered the Japanese version. There have been some comments on the message board such as "This game will suck if it's not a direct sequel" and the like. I admit I am a tad nervous. I mean 10 years have caused quite a bit of build up in expectations. However I trust Itoi. Knowing his history with Mother 64, I am confident he would not release the game if he wasn't sure it would be good. The screenshots he has posted in his blog show that Mother 3 will be quite different from Mother 2, but change isn't necessarily a bad thing. At it's heart it looks to be very much in the spirit of the past two Mother games, and that is what matters.
Basically we must keep an open mind when playing this game. It will be different, but I have no doubt that it will be a great game and a fitting possible end to a great series.
