The Connection Between Earthbound and Mother 3 [SPOILERS ON ENTIRE GAME]
Maybe this should be under theories, but that section hasn't updated in a while. Anyways, here's my theory/article on the connection between Earthbound and Mother 3.
Pokey WAS rich, but his father loaned money to Ness' dad. Ness' dad was unable to pay him back, so he left. Naturally, this caused tragedy for Ness, and so he went to Pokey for a friend. Pokey's dad told Pokey that the Ness Family is bad, so Pokey was mean to Ness, yet jealous at the same time, and yet still wanted a friend as well, and Ness was there.
After getting beaten by his dad, Pokey now hated Ness, for his father hated him. So, Pokey tried to follow Ness, and make his life miserable. In Twoson, Pokey found the Happy Happy Village. There, he inquired about the Happy Happyists. Pokey saw the Mani Mani the Carpainter bought, and touched it. The Mani Mani filled his mind with an illusion of power, money, and a revenge against Ness. So, Pokey attempted to stop Ness.
After Ness beat the Carpainter, Pokey pretended that he was in a trance so Ness would not hurt him, for Pokey was too weak in his current state. But, Pokey used this as a distraction to escape. However, the evil thoughts of the Mani Mani still filled his head. In Fourside, Pokey helped Montoli make economical decisions that led him to be rich. He used the money to make his father happy, and proud of him. His father was no longer mad at Pokey for being with Ness.
By now, Pokey had absorbed a HUGE amount of energy and illusions from the Mani Mani, that the energy of that Mani Mani was slowly being added to his own, and first coming out with smarts. When the Mani Mani was destroyed, Pokey had already had so much energy, that he was able to speak with Giygas directly with his mind, and Giygas consumed him with a power greater than Pokey had every felt.
Pokey tossed aside Montoli, and took the yellow helicopter to where Giygas told him to go telepathically, the Cave of the Past in the Lost Underworld. But, Pokey crashed in the Deep Darkness, not knowing how to land a helicopter. He went through the Tenda Caves, and Lumine Hall, and then reached the Lost Underworld. In it, Pokey knew he had to have a defense against the dinos. With his now huge brainpower, he invented his Robot Vehicle, which helped him down the dinos, and find the cave. The cave had the passageway originally. After Pokey found Giygas, Giygas destroyed the passageway and transported Pokey to the past, 10 years ago.
Pokey had too much brainpower to handle, and Giygas had too much power to handle. Pokey absorbed part of Giygas' power, which led him to be stronger than he ever was. During this, Giygas absorbed part of Pokey's personality, which explains the weird text. This text tells us what the Pokey AT THAT TIME (Pokey is 3) is thinking. Pokey, knowing that Giygas' power is too great to control, made the Devil's Machine, which managed to contain and control Giygas. Pokey is STRONGER than Giygas. This is key.
Ness comes to fight Pokey. Pokey's face is blue. Hey, didn't the human enemies have blue faces too? Coincidince? No. Pokey has absorbed much of Giygas' power, remember? When Pokey opens the Devil's Machine, he can't physically fight anymore. His body is absorbing too much power for him to control his body properly. When Giygas is destroyed, Pokey's no longer absorbing energy, but the current energy he absorbed IS STILL THERE.
Pokey abandoned his family, knowing that they could no longer help. He tells Ness to find him, but Ness can't, for Pokey is now on another island continent. But, Pokey had to travel to the future after Giygas died, and this caused him to grow old. This is why he abandoned his family, he would not be accepted. He saw his brother Picky one last time in a heartrending moment, and told him to give a letter to Ness.
Pokey, on the new island, formed the Pig Mask Army. Three years did progress through the game. During this, Pokey distributed his power from Giygas to his robots, and to Robot Claus. Pokey was now almost normal again, yet old. Through the years, he missed Ness, and visited Eagleland just to see him. Ness and Pokey became friends once again, and this time had a true friendship. When Pokey returned to his island home, he brought back as many artifacts of his friend as he can, and built a shrine, so he would never forget his long-lost friend.
When Pokey was about to die, he probably only wished to see his friend...one more time...
