The Little Things Missing in our Lives
I've been bored recently. I do not have Super Smash Brothers Melee, and there hasn't been a new EarthBound game for over 5 years. I'm playing EarthBound yet AGAIN, and I've been looking around starmen.net for something new. The forums and chat rooms are full of newbies who aren't really into EarthBound, and I feel that there is something missing from my life.
When Mother 3 / EarthBound 64 was cancelled, I was devastated. I didn't know what to say, and I slumped down into a hole in the ground. In this article (My first by the way,) is dedicated to the topics of the good old days of starmen.net, and EarthBound in general.
I would like to say, to the people who have not read my forum post about it, that starmen.net just doesn't interest me as much as it used to. Don't get me wrong though; I am VERY into the site. do you oldies remember YANEB? Undernet? The Days Before X? When I first came here in September of 1998, I just could not stop visiting. Actually, I beat EarthBound for the first time when I came here.
The friendliness though, has died. The chat rooms have split in two. Sections have stopped being updated. I tried to submit some Super Smash Brothers screenshots a month or so back, and they were rejected due to pure laziness. Nobody cares about anything. I was ecstatic when reidman brought up the Starmen.net summer 2001 convention! Something is still missing, though. Like Mother 3.
When Shigeasto Itoi cancelled EarthBound 64, he blamed it on how hard it is to develop 3-D graphics. I mean, come on! EVERYTHING now is 3-D! Hello, and welcome to last year! The game is over 75% done or something like that, and NO normal person would just up and leave. Call me crazy, but I still have high hopes for EarthBound 64 coming out.
The community is dying, and EarthBound (seems to be) dying. There is no more EarthBound, except for Super Smash Brothers and the 2 games that can only be played so many times before it gets boring. Me? I don't know what I'm going to do. I guess I'll just sit back and wait for another EarthBound.
